Microsoft releases rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1

Earlier today the Exchange CXP team released Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 SP1 to the Download Center.
This update contains a number of customer-reported and internally found issues since the release of RU1. See 'KB 2509910: Description of Update Rollup 4 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1' for more details. In particular we would like to specifically call out the following fixes which are included in this release:
- 2519359 Unable to Create a 'Reply With' Rule on Public Folders Even With Owner and Send As Permissions
- 2394554 Generating DSN fails if original mail uses non-support encoding charset.
- 2490134 Outlook 2007 does not deliver "Delayed Delivery" Messages against an Exchange 2010 Server in Online mode with any additional Transport loaded in the Outlook Profile

Update Rollup 5 for Exchange Server 2010 Service Pack 1 is currently scheduled to release in August 2011.
General Notes
Note for Exchange 2010 Customers using the Arabic and Hebrew language version: We introduced two new languages with the release of Service Pack 1, Arabic and Hebrew. At present we are working through the process of modifying our installers to incorporate these two languages. Customers running either of the two language versions affected are advised to download and install the English language version of the rollup which contains all of the same fixes.

Windows Home Server Power Pack 3 update

We’ve talked extensively about the improvements that Power Pack 3 for Windows Home Server will deliver for users. We were proud to show off the beta code of Power Pack 3 at the recent CEDIA 2009 custom installer technology show, where we got lots of positive reception to the feature set. It’s clear that the anticipation of using Windows Home Server with the upcoming Windows 7 client PC operating system is reaching feverish pitch! OK, maybe that was a slight exaggeration…But the bottom line is that we’ve gotten tremendous feedback (and test coverage) from you, our enthusiasts, around Power Pack 3 – and we couldn’t be more excited.
This being said, our top priority is to ensure the absolute highest level of product quality, and to this end, we will continue with additional testing of the software. As with past software releases, our team will not ship the official final release of Power Pack 3 until the community has validated our work. We expect to deliver before the end of the year.

Service Pack 2 provides fixes for known issues and improves existing functionality in the following product areas:
- Authentication — Improvements to forms-based authentication, authentication for Web applications, and the Business Data Catalog.
- Database performance and integrity — Improved database performance and integrity by automatically rebuilding database indexes with a timer job.
- Interoperability — Improved support for standards-based document formats and compatibility with a broader range of browsers level 1 and level 2 browser support.
- Read-only content databases — Improved user experience by automatically configuring site collections as read-only when the content database is configured as read-only.
- Stsadm command-line tool — In addition to operations for pre-upgrade scanning and variations analysis and repair, several operations are improved and new operations added to better support farm administration.
- Pre-upgrade scanning and reporting — An Stsadm operation that enables you to scan an existing farm and its servers to verify that they can be upgraded SharePoint Products and Technologies “14″.
- Variations analysis and repair — An Stsadm operation that enables farm administrators to better manage and perform necessary operations against variations.

Microsoft releases Exchange Server 2007 service pack 2

Customer Benefits
Key new features of Exchange Server 2007 SP2 unveiled today include:
- Enhanced Auditing – New Exchange auditing events and audit log repository enable Exchange administrators to more easily audit the activities occurring on their Exchange servers. It allows the right balance of granularity, performance, and easy access to audited events via a dedicated audit log repository. This simplifies the auditing process and makes review of audited events easier by segregating audited events in a dedicated location.
- Exchange Volume Snapshot Backup Functionality - A new backup plug-in has been added to the product that will enable customers to create Exchange backups when a backup is invoked through the Windows Server 2008 Backup tool. Exchange Server 2007 didn’t have this capability on Windows Server 2008 and additional solutions were required to perform this task.
- Dynamic Active Directory Schema Update and Validation – The dynamic AD schema update and validation feature allows for future schema updates to be dynamic deployed as well as proactively preventing conflicts whenever a new property is added to the AD schema. Once this capability is deployed it will enable easier management of future schema updates and will prevent support issues when adding properties that don’t exist in the AD schema.
- Public Folder Quota Management – SP2 enables a consistent way to manage quotas by improving the current PowerShell cmdlets to perform quota management tasks.
- Centralized Organizational Settings – SP2 introduces new PowerShell option that enable centralized management of many of the Exchange organization settings.
- Named Properties cmdlets – SP2 enables Exchange administrators to monitor their named property usage per database.
- New User Interface for Managing Diagnostic Logging- SP2 enables Exchange administrators to easily configure and manage diagnostic logging from within the Exchange Management Console.

Slipstreaming SQL Server 2008 and Service pack 1

Today, I am going to show you how to create new source media that will slipstream the original source media and SQL Server 2008 Service Pack 1. Once you have created this drop, you can install SQL Server 2008 SP1 in a single step! These instructions are included with the Service Pack 1 release but there are some issues with the documentation that will be addressed in the next revision of the on-line documentation. There is not a lot of user interface that indicates you are slipstreaming, but there are a few clues, see at the bottom for screen shots.
